About us

GDF Suez
One of the leading energy providers in the world, GDF SUEZ is active across the entire energy value chain, in electricity and natural gas, upstream to downstream. The Group develops its businesses (energy, energy services and environment) around a responsible-growth model to take up the great challenges: responding to energy needs, fighting against climate change and taking into account issues relating to security of supply. Therefore, GDF SUEZ relies on diversified supply sources as well as flexible and highly efficient power generation in order to provide innovative energy solutions to individuals, cities and businesses.
GDF SUEZ is uniquely positioned towards CCS as it is a major actor on all three components of the chain: electricity production, transport of gas and gas storage.
The Group is collaborating in several research projects within national and international partnerships such as DECARBit (EU), CESAR (EU), ACACIA (FR) and CATO2 (NL) and is active since several years on cryogenic capture.
The Group directs or participates in pilot projects such as:
• A pilot project to test post-combustion capture. This pilot project is developed in collaboration with Hitachi and E.ON. The pilot installation will be able to process up to 5,000 Nm³/h of flue gas, corresponding to around 1 t/h of captured CO2. It is expected to be operational in 2010.
• The group is continuing the experimental injection of CO2 started in 2004 on the K12B gas field located on the Dutch continental shelf.
• Since 2010 the Group is participating (along with other industrial and research organizations) in the “France Nord” pilot project on transport and storage of CO2 in saline aquifer in France.
• Also, GDF SUEZ is, in partnership with EON, developing a large demonstration project that has been selected under the EEPR. The project is now under the stage of contract negotiations and FEED study. If all goes well the demo project must be operational across the whole chain (capture, transport and storage) by 2015.
