Petrofac (CO2DeepStore Ltd)

Petrofac (CO2DeepStore Ltd)

Petrofac is a leading international provider of facilities solutions to the oil, gas and energy industries with a proven track record in the design, construction and operation of energy infrastructure. Petrofac is quoted on the London Stock Exchange and is a constituent of the FTSE 100 index. With more than 14,000 employees, Petrofac operates worldwide to deliver services across the full life cycle of energy assets. Where we can leverage our service capability, Petrofac will develop and co-invest in energy and infrastructure projects.

Petrofac’s established track record in delivering large-scale projects, our ability to co-invest and our expertise in delivering oil & gas operations, engineering, construction, drilling and well construction are relevant to the scale, financing requirements, complexity and risks associated with developing carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects. By supporting such projects with our established expertise it is our strategic objective to be a valued, long term player in the CCS sector across all aspects of capture, transport and storage.

Petrofac is involved in carbon capture and storage co-investment through its wholly-owned subsidiary CO2DeepStore Ltd, which is exclusively focussed on the commercialisation of carbon capture and storage.

The primary focus of CO2DeepStore is to reduce CO2 emissions through cost effective, safe and long term sequestration of industrial volumes of anthropogenic CO2. The company co-invests alongside partners and provides the development capability to enable the capture, transport or storage of CO2 for major industrial emitters (power stations, cement works, iron / steel / aluminium plants and similar large emitters). Such support includes:

• participating as a co-investor to ensure the effective capture, dehydration and compression of CO2 at the major emission sites (power stations, cement works, steel plants etc)
• participating as a co-investor in the development and operation of the necessary infrastructure to transport CO2 from the point of capture to the coast and offshore to the carbon dioxide storage reservoirs
• identifying, developing, licensing and operating deep geological carbon dioxide storage reservoirs. This includes undertaking the long-term monitoring of the reservoir after CO2 injection has been completed
• working with the existing owners of gas field assets to enable an optimised transition of the asset into CO2 service where value is preserved for all parties
