Pipeline Transport Solution

Carbon dioxide is already transported for commercial purposes by road tanker, by ship and by pipeline.

Although each of these methods is practical, the likely quantities to be transported from source to storage site are considerable. Therefore it is most likely that local and regional infrastructures of pipelines will ultimately be developed.

The technologies involved in pipeline transportation are little different from those used extensively for transporting gas or oil around the world. Indeed in some cases it may be possible to re-use existing but redundant pipeline assets.

Large networks of CO2 pipelines are already in use and are operated commercially with proven safety and reliability records. The development of CO2 pipeline networks and their ongoing management is set to become a major international business opportunity for specialists in this area.
