A CCS future for Europe: catalysing North Sea action
The creation of a Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) industry is imperative if we are to achieve global carbon targets and avert the worst impacts of climate change. It is also achievable if we start delivering the projects that will, from CO? source to storage site, build confidence and prove the technology. The progress of CCS in Europe is a story of highs and lows, yet the technology remains firmly on the agenda as Member States now debate climate and energy policy to 2030 and beyond. This conference will focus on the North Sea region and its unique set of assets as an enabler of CCS for Europe. It will bring together European experts from government, industry and academia to explore the policies and practical opportunities that can help deliver climate clean-up while ensuring Europe’s economic resilience.

The New Role of Fossil Fuels in the Diverse Energy Landscape of the 21st Century - 27 November 2014
The role of fossil fuels in the world’s energy landscape is changing. This change is particularly important in the UK owing to its position as an island nation characterised by an increasing energy demand, relatively small levels of energy interconnection with mainland Europe, dwindling installed fossil-based generating capacity and ambitious goals to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions.
This one day meeting aims to provoke discussion on how the changing energy landscape will affect the use of and services provided by fossil fuels in the UK's energy system over the course of this century.
