INTERA has the specialist geoscience expertise and proven experience to work with our clients to accelerate the world’s much needed decarbonisation and CCS imperatives.
Founded in 1974, INTERA has a deep understanding of the subsurface and is a global leader in the development and application of numerical models to support environmental and natural resource management issues. Our staff bring over a decade of carbon dioxide (CO2) storage experience through the development of conceptual and numerical models of CO2 storage sites in the United States, Canada, and Europe. Most significantly, our experts led the numerical modelling required to obtain the first-ever U.S. EPA Class VI underground injection well permits for the FutureGen 2.0 Project.
As a specialist SME with UK presence, our team of geoscientists and numerical modellers are experts in applying multi-phase simulators to evaluate complex subsurface systems for a variety of geological settings. Additionally, INTERA has decades of proven experience in managing and protecting groundwater and surface water resources in a sustainable way, including as a world leader for this work in the most demanding settings of nuclear waste storage and disposal. We work collaboratively with agencies and organisations responsible for managing and protecting water resources, allowing us to bring insight into the regulatory process. This regulatory know how and understanding of groundwater systems and geology uniquely positions INTERA to provide technical support for regulatory requirements under the US EPA’s Underground Injection Control program, particularly for Class VI wells.
Our capabilities include:
• UIC Class VI Permitting for Geological CO2 Storage
• Simulation of Multi-phase CO2 Fate and Transport
• Geological and fluid model construction – digital twins
• Screening level CO2 storage Site Assessments
• Underground Sources of Drinking Water (USDW) Identification and Aquifer Characterisation
• CO2 Stream Analysis
• Water Supply Planning and Environmental Impacts Assessments
• Water Quality and Gas characterisation, investigation, testing and monitoring
