West Burton Energy (‘West Burton’) is the owner and operator of the ~1300MW West Burton Combined Cycle Gas Fired Power Station located in North Nottinghamshire, supplying power to over 1.5million homes. It is one of the most modern and efficient power stations in the UK.
West Burton is committed to providing flexible and reliable power to support a secure and stable electricity supply in the UK. Carbon abatement is a fundamental part of this commitment, and one pathway under review is the development of carbon capture on site.
In 2022 West Burton entered into partnership with Viking CCS (the CO2 capture, transport and storage network) on the option to capture, transport and permanently store CO2 emissions from the West Burton power plant, in the Southern North Sea Viking depleted Gas reserves.
West Burton’s decarbonisation strategy also includes evaluating the deployment of hydrogen co-firing and the development and construction of further electricity storage facilities, supporting the ongoing commitment to help Britain in its pathway to achieve net zero.
