CCSA Statement in Response to Jackdaw and Energy Wealth Fund

London, 21 October 2026 – The Carbon Capture and Storage Association (CCSA) has called for the Government’s new Energy Wealth Fund to support CCUS deployment, retaining vital workforce skills and unlocking investment across the UK.

The call follows today’s announcement on the Jackdaw gas field and the establishment of an Energy Wealth Fund, with an initial £2 billion to reinvest North Sea oil and gas revenues in renewable and low-carbon energy projects.

Following the announcement from the Government, Olivia Powis, Chief Executive of the CCSA, said:

“Today’s announcements on Jackdaw and the new Energy Wealth Fund are an opportunity to turn North Sea revenues into investment in the UK’s low-carbon future, supporting a just transition for oil and gas workers and the industries that depend on them. Alongside renewables and nuclear, CCUS has a critical role to play. Workers and businesses need confidence that projects will move forward, creating new jobs and opportunities to transfer vital skills into the industries of the future. Without a clear pipeline of projects, the UK risks losing skilled workers, investment and supply chain capability overseas.

“Electrification is essential but will not meet every industrial need. CCUS is vital to decarbonising industrial sectors such as cement, chemicals and refining and supporting low-carbon hydrogen and dispatchable power alongside renewables. The Energy Wealth Fund must allocate funding to help CCUS projects reach final investment decisions and begin construction. Those already being built are helping drive reindustrialisation in Teesside, Merseyside and North Wales. Timely government decisions can extend these benefits to more communities and give workers and businesses confidence to build their futures here.”
