CCSA Statement in Response to Energy Independence Bill
London, 4 November 2026 – Responding to today’s publication of the Government’s Energy Independence Bill, Olivia Powis, Chief Executive of the Carbon Capture and Storage Association (CCSA), said:
“The Energy Independence Bill is an opportunity to strengthen the UK’s energy security and support a sustainable future for the North Sea and its skilled workforce. CCUS has a vital role to play in delivering a just transition, drawing on our offshore expertise and infrastructure while helping British industries decarbonise and remain competitive. This is a role that will now need to be fully recognised by the evolving objectives of the NSTA to secure a prosperous North Sea Transition.
“Following the Budget, the Government must provide clarity and a clear route forward for the next wave of CCUS projects, building on its success to date in Teesside, Merseyside and North Wales. The CCSA looks forward to working with Government and Parliament to ensure the Bill delivers for all our industrial heartlands and their communities.”
