CCSA Statement on CCC's advice to UK Government regarding proposed Heathrow Airport expansion

The Climate Change Committee (CCC) has published its advice to the UK Government on proposed Heathrow Airport expansion.

Following the release of the report, Olivia Powis, CEO of the CCSA, said: “The CCC is right to focus on emissions from aviation, particularly following a summer of record-breaking heatwaves. Sustainable Aviation Fuels and greenhouse gas removals have an important role to play in helping aviation decarbonise. The carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) sector supports both pathways, giving airlines access to a range of decarbonisation options that can help drive competition and reduce costs as SAF production and GGR technologies scale. In doing so, GGRs can provide a cost-effective means of addressing residual aviation emissions, complementing the growth of sustainable fuels. We are working closely with Government to build the markets and investment needed to scale these technologies and keep aviation firmly on track for net zero.”
