Northern Endurance Partnership (NEP)

Based in Darlington, Northern Endurance Partnership (NEP) is delivering carbon capture and storage infrastructure that will service the Track-1 East Coast Cluster.

After reaching FID in December 2024, construction of their landmark Teesside Phase 1 infrastructure is ongoing and on schedule. This includes a 12km onshore gathering network, compression facilities, a 149km offshore pipeline, and subsea injection and monitoring systems.

Their work on Teesside is reindustrialisation in action and clearly demonstrates how strategic infrastructure investments can create jobs, strengthen domestic supply chains, and generate lasting economic value in regions that have powered Britain’s economy for generations. Through their Teesside infrastructure and the wider East Coast Cluster, NEP has already helped deliver:

  • 175 apprenticeship places
  • 3,000 jobs during construction, with hundreds of permanent operational and maintenance roles created
  • More than £2bn awarded to UK suppliers, including significant contracts to Teesside based companies
  • More than 260 subcontracts awarded to UK companies
  • More than 50% UK supply chain content
  • £2.5m to be invested in the local community

Beyond the economic upside, NEP’s work on Teesside is also delivering real environmental benefits. By helping to cut emissions from energy‑intensive sectors such as steel, the project will support the UK’s net zero ambitions while contributing to cleaner air and more sustainable operations across the region. This shift is helping to build a stronger, more resilient industrial base that balances economic growth with environmental responsibility.

NEP is now progressing their Humber Expansion project, including offshore store appraisal and development of the Humber Carbon Capture Pipeline (HCCP).

NEP is an incorporated joint venture established solely to develop and operate CO2 transportation and storage infrastructure on behalf of its shareholders: bp, Equinor and TotalEnergies.
