Jobs today: CCUS investment delivering across the UK
CCUS is already creating jobs, strengthening UK supply chains and supporting communities across some of the country’s industrial heartlands.
Five projects across HyNet and the East Coast Cluster have reached final investment decision and moved into construction. Together, they are delivering significant economic benefits across the North West, North Wales and Teesside.
- £4.1 billion+ in supply chain contracts awarded
- 5,500 construction jobs supported and created
- Around 350 UK subcontractors involved
- Over 50% UK content, exceeding the projects’ voluntary target

Building the workforce needed to deliver CCUS
Delivering CCUS at scale will require a skilled workforce ready to support projects from design through to operation.
With the first CCUS projects entering construction across the UK and Europe, attention is turning to delivery. A skilled workforce will be essential across project design, fabrication, construction and operations.
CCUS offers significant opportunities to develop new skills, support long-term careers and strengthen the workforce needed to deliver the net zero transition. Explore below our reports and papers setting out the steps needed to develop the skilled workforce required to deliver CCUS at scale and create opportunities for future generations.
Workforce & Skills Position Papers
A strong skills pipeline and competent workforce are essential for CCUS to be deployed on time and at the scale needed to deliver our decarbonisation ambitions.
The CCSA has developed a series of position papers to outline the challenges facing the CCUS sector, help demystify CCUS jobs and skills, highlight areas of best practice across the CCUS community, and provide recommendations to government, industry and wider stakeholders.
These papers have been produced by members of the CCSA UK Workforce & Skills Working Group. The first paper in the series was published in 2023, followed by an updated position paper in 2026.
Collective Action
The CCSA has engaged with stakeholders, trade associations and government departments to build consensus and support collective action. This work is reflected in a series of joint letters and reports.
Addressing skills challenges is essential to unlocking the full potential of the UK workforce and driving sustainable economic growth. This will require sustained policy action alongside industry-led initiatives to support trades, apprenticeships and the new and existing jobs needed to deliver net zero.
