The 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference, more commonly referred to as COP28, will be the 28th United Nations Climate Change conference.

The Carbon Capture and Storage Association is a registered Business NGO at COP28 and is involved in a number of activities in partnership with other organisations:

Below you will find information about Carbon Capture Utilisation and Storage (CCUS); including videos and publications – as well as a list of all CCUS-related events taking place at COP28 (this list will be continuously updated in the run-up to and during COP28).

If you want to find out more about CCUS projects in Europe, please visit the ZEP CCS/CCU market-ready projects map.

04 Dec
19:00 – 20:00 – CCSA “Carbon capture and storage: towards long-term commercial deployment”

Carbon capture and storage (CCS) is a crucial part of the pathway for reaching net zero and beyond, and tackling climate change. To move beyond the first projects to broad deployment, CCS projects will need commercial models to make them profitable in a market-based approach. Government funding support is crucial to getting the first net zero-focused CCS projects up and running, but what is needed in the longer term to deliver the necessary volume of CO2 capture and storage in order to achieve the Paris Agreement? How can CCS be made commercially viable without subsidy so that it is deployed where and when needed for the long term? Hear from our panel on the approaches that governments can take and how industry is working with governments to explore the options to drive long-term commercial deployment of CCS.

This event will take place in the IETA Business Hub.

“Carbon capture and storage (CCS) is a necessity, not an option, for reaching net-zero emissions”

Climate Change Committee, UK

“Without CCUS "our energy and climate goals will become virtually impossible to reach"”

Fatih Birol, Executive Director of the International Energy Agency

“We have to reduce emissions urgently and take action to tackle the carbon already in the atmosphere. Putting a value on carbon thus making carbon capture solutions more economical is therefore absolutely critical.”
