The European Advanced Carbon and Graphite Materials Association (ECGA) is the recognised voice of Europe’s carbon and graphite sector. Established in 1995 and headquartered in Brussels, ECGA represents the full spectrum of carbon and graphite producers within the EU, including 100% of natural graphite production and the entirety of Soederberg anodes, cathodes, and graphite electrodes manufacturing.
With a turnover exceeding €3 billion, ECGA’s members supply essential materials to sectors central to Europe’s green and digital transitions – from steel and aluminium production to batteries, fuel cells, and advanced manufacturing. ECGA actively supports innovation in carbon capture, utilisation, and storage (CCUS), as well as the conversion of CO₂ into valuable carbon products. Its members are pioneering carbon-based solutions that close industrial carbon loops and enable circularity at scale.
ECGA plays a vital role in EU industrial policy discussions, advocating for the strategic importance of carbon and graphite in achieving climate goals. It engages in early policy dialogues, facilitates knowledge-sharing across the value chain, and promotes sustainable practices, including the recycling of carbon-rich materials and CO₂-derived feedstocks. The association’s mission is to ensure that carbon and graphite are recognised not only as critical raw materials but as enablers of clean technologies and industrial decarbonisation.
Through its collaborative and science-driven approach, ECGA supports Europe’s ambitions for resilient, low-emission value chains. It is committed to driving technological progress, fostering regulatory clarity, and representing a sector essential to delivering net-zero solutions.
