StimWell Services is a UK-based specialist in vessel-mounted well stimulation in the Oil and Gas industry. Established in 2008, the company operates globally with a strong presence in the North Sea. Its flagship asset, the Island Patriot, is a purpose-built, DNV certified stimulation vessel. An on-board R&D laboratory for stimulation testing fluids as well as conducting QA/QC tests underscores StimWell’s long-standing commitment to innovation, enabling bespoke testing and concept development in collaboration with clients.

In 2022, StimWell began powering the Island Patriot with renewable shore power - electricity generated from wind power - while in the Port of Esbjerg, Denmark. As the first vessel to use shore power in Esbjerg, the Island Patriot has achieved an annual carbon-emission reduction of approximately 22%.

StimWell has since made a strategic decision to diversify the business by developing a unique carbon capture technology. The company is working with two major UK universities to advance, test, and refine this technology. StimWell is currently running its first pilot test using a small diesel generator to prove the concept and confirm that the captured CO₂ meets the purity requirements for storage in the North Sea.

The carbon capture system uses solid, porous, and safe-to-handle chemicals to adsorb CO₂. Delivered as a modular unit—typically in 20- or 40-foot containers—it is designed for flexible deployment at both onshore and offshore emission sources. The technology requires less than half the energy of amine-based systems and can capture CO₂ from both small and large emitters. This solution leverages StimWell’s maritime expertise to deploy capture systems on vessels or platforms, enabling industrial-scale CO₂ capture at the source, whether from onshore plants, offshore installations, or marine infrastructure.
