CCSA Member Discussion Forum with Phillips 66

The CCSA is delighted to host an in-person Member Discussion Forum with Phillips 66 “Unlocking Energy Security through CCS – Phillips 66’s vision for the Humber”, on Thursday 23rd May 2024.

This event will take place at North building reception, 200-202 Aldersgate Street, London EC1A 4HD.

CCSA Member Discussion Forums are kindly hosted by a member and are open to all CCSA members. In addition to hearing the latest from the member host, there will be plenty of opportunity to network with other members. These free to attend meetings are a member benefit, so we encourage you to consider sending a representative from your organisation.

Event overview:

The Humber is home to some of the UK’s vital infrastructure from the UK’s only commercial scale producer of sustainable aviation fuel to power generation for millions of homes and local industry.

There is an urgency to localise supply chains, stop the offshoring of emissions, and develop infrastructure if we are to reach Net Zero.

If we are to achieve this goal, it is vital industry works closely together. We invite you to our latest panel discussion to hear about Phillips 66’s vision for the region. We will also hear from speakers that will highlight the important role of CCS to decarbonise power, support the development of lower carbon products and power, and accelerate skills.

The Zero Emissions Platform and the CCSA are launching the “CO₂ transport by ship” report. Join us for insightful presentations and discussions about the role of CO₂ transport by ship, exploring opportunities and perspectives to accelerate the deployment of the CCS value chain.

Synopsis

The European Commission aims for the EU to capture and store 50 million tonnes of CO₂ annually by 2030 through its Net Zero Industry Act. Meeting this objective necessitates the rapid deployment of the entire CO₂ infrastructure value chain, including the transportation of CO₂.

Transport of CO₂ by ship plays a vital role in the CO₂ infrastructure, which will enable emitters across Europe to connect to safe and permanent storage. CO₂ transport by ship also contributes to equitable access for all countries and becomes particularly valuable when other transport options (pipeline, rail, truck) are not viable. Maritime transport is essential to connect dispersed industries to CO₂ storage sites.

While the significance of shipping in large-scale CCS deployment is gaining recognition at both the EU and national level, there is an urgent need to define the future scope of CO₂ transport by ship in the European market. This requires investigating the number of vessels potentially required, the location of strategic ports, and the volumes expected to be transported annually.
The CCSA and ZEP have joined forces to identify barriers and enablers and provide recommendations to European policymakers to support the development of this market. The report findings and recommendations will be presented during the webinar to assist companies, regulators, and decision-makers in navigating the emerging CO₂ transport market.

This event gathers industry leaders, experts in CO₂ transport by ship, policymakers and CCS project promoters. Together, they will deep dive into the nascent CCS market and the crucial role of shipping in deploying the CCS value-chain.

CCUS 2023 Conference: Springboard to Net Zero

The CCSA’s annual flagship conference “CCUS 2023 Conference: Springboard to Net Zero” takes place on the 17th – 18th October at Central Hall Westminster in London.

The 2023 conference takes place in a critical year for CCUS. The UK has recently made key announcements regarding the next steps for CCUS deployment – including £20bn of funding and confirmation of the first eight carbon capture projects to be built. The EU’s Net Zero Industry Act and the US’s Inflation Reduction Act are also having a significant impact on the deployment of CCUS in those regions.

The focus this year will be on the way forward for CCUS and the pivotal role it will need to play as we journey towards net zero. The conference will cover a wide variety of topics such as; CCUS business models, market frameworks, CCUS supply chains, carbon removals, capture and storage permitting, CCS-enabled hydrogen, networks and developments in regions such as Denmark, Germany, United States, Asia and the Middle East.
